DIRECTIONAL RECURRENCE FOR INFINITE MEASURE PRESERVING Zd ACTIONS

چکیده
We define directional recurrence for infinite measure preserving Z actions both intrinsically and via the unit suspension flow and prove that the two definitions are equivalent. We study the structure of the set of recurrent directions and show it is always a Gδ set. We construct an example of a recurrent action with no recurrent directions, answering a question posed in a 2007 paper of Daniel J. Rudolph. We also show by example that it is possible for a recurrent action to not be recurrent in an irrational direction even if all its sub-actions are recurrent.

RANK ONE Zd ACTIONS AND DIRECTIONAL ENTROPY
Rank one transformations play a central role in the theory of ergodic measure preserving transformations. Having first been identified as a distinct class by Chacon in [3], their properties have been studied extensively (see for example [1], [7], [11], [6]). Rank one transformations have also served as an important tool for exploring the range of possible behavior of measure preserving transfor...
متن کاملMultiple and Polynomial Recurrence for Abelian Actions in Infinite Measure
We apply the (C, F )-construction from [Da] to produce a number of funny rank one infinite measure preserving actions of Abelian groups G with “unusual” multiple recurrence properties. In particular, we construct the following for each p ∈ N ∪ {∞}: (i) a p-recurrent action T = (Tg)g∈G such that (if p 6=∞) no one transformation Tg is (p + 1)-recurrent for every element g of infinite order, (ii) ...
متن کاملSpeedups of Ergodic Group Extensions of Z-actions
We define what it means to “speed up” a Zd−measure-preserving dynamical system, and prove that given any ergodic extension Tσ of a Zd− measure-preserving action by a locally compact, second countable group G, and given any second G−extension Sσ of an aperiodic Zd− measure-preserving action, there is a relative speedup of Tσ which is relatively isomorphic to Sσ . Furthermore, we show that given ...
متن کاملA Directional Uniformity of Periodic Point Distribution and Mixing
For mixing Zd-actions generated by commuting automorphisms of a compact abelian group, we investigate the directional uniformity of the rate of periodic point distribution and mixing. When each of these automorphisms has finite entropy, it is shown that directional mixing and directional convergence of the uniform measure supported on periodic points to Haar measure occurs at a uniform rate ind...
متن کاملOn Multiple and Polynomial Recurrent Extensions of Infinite Measure Preserving Transformations
We prove that multiple-recurrence and polynomial-recurrence of invertible infinite measure preserving transformations are both properties which pass to extensions.
